friday experiment: cool dumb shit
trying something new where I'll share some cool and/or dumb shit with you: reads, listens, purchases maybe but only if they're REALLY good, because #deinfluenced
What’s up. I had this idea while back and not like it’s totally revolutionary to share a list of stuff with people but I’m always saving things to share somewhere and don’t always find the right place or platform on which to share said things and when I feel the need to share with more than one friend via text, that’s the shit that’s gonna end up here.
So here’s the things: the things I thought I should text to a friend but didn’t want to come off like an asshole, the article I want everyone to read because it was amazingly thought provoking but again am I annoying when I share articles on instagram because no one wants to read articles when scrolling on insta, #amiright.
And maybe you’ll think A Thing is cool shit or maybe it’s just really dumb shit, but either way maybe it’s nice shit?
I think eventually I’ll make these for just paid people but let’s just try it out for now. Email me if it’s just dumb and not cool shit. OR email me if you want YOUR dumb / cool shit on here! Share your shit in the comments!
here’s some shit
One of my favorite Substack subscriptions (one of my few paid ones right now!) is Emma Gannon, formerly of Ctrl Alt Delete podcast, author, and now Substack writer on The Hyphen which I am loving. This letter about the trap of “too much” was really thought provoking.
Same Substack, different thing: a thread about Main Character Energy, in which the comments are really lovely too.
One of my favorite blogs still being published, is Cup of Jo. I was an on/off reader in the early 2010s and fell off probably when she started having her babies but rediscovered it 2ish years ago thanks to my bff reminding me how great the posts are, the comments section is always lovely, and the general vibes of the whole online space are wonderful. Also really resonating with author Joanna as Future Sara will also have 2 tween boys and I’m loving seeing what feel like peeks at my actual future life. This is an old post but one I love re-reading and hope to commit to memory as my little baby boys grow. brb sobbing.
This thing looks completely bonkers, fake, and also dumb, and I absolutely found it through an Instagram ad, but it IS approved by my chiropractor and massage therapist* and I am loving beginning and ending my days with it. I shan’t make any outrageous health or wellness or posture related claims, it just feels nice! *Obviously I’m not a dr and idk it just feels nice but if you have concerns, use your noggin, ask a professional you trust, etc etc. adult things, ok?
A very long article but thought-provoking and intriguing. Discomfort is…uncomfortable, but feeling the feelings and figuring out how to work through them is important. At least, this is what my therapist says and what I’m trying to teach my kids so I guess I better take my medicine, yes?
A daily podcast that is no more than 5 minutes long on any given day and is [say it in a british accent] ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL, seriously one of my favorite listens and always leaves me with a smile even when I’m depressed and/or grumpy as shit. I listen on Spotify but here’s an Apple Podcast link too.
Voxer app. I know only a handful of people who actively use Voxer but can I please tell you how amazing it is to stay in touch with friends this way?! “Stay in touch” is so mild a phrase for my level of connection with the couple friends I trade voice messages with on this app. It’s changed my life and I wish more people were on it to gab to when it suits me vs. sticking only to texts or waiting for the non-existent time at which we’re both available for an old-school phone call.
That’s it! What do y’all think? What’s the deal with this? Do we like? Should I keep doing these?? I’m literally begging you to tell me if I should or not, I can’t make a single other decision today / this week / this month ugh.
KBYE.
